Chart Settings Not Applying
A configure-panel tab shows no controls, or your chart settings don't stick โ chart-type support, session overrides vs saved settings, and persisting to a Prism

Note
You opened the chart configure panel but a tab is empty, or the settings you changed didn't persist.
Symptoms
- A ChartConfigurePanel tab (Data, Style, Axis, Labels, Conditional, Advanced) shows no controls.
- A setting you changed reverts after you reload or reopen.
- Grain or comparison changes on a Prism don't stick, but chart styling does.
Causes & fixes
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A configure-panel tab shows no controls | The panel's tabs only show controls the chosen chart actually supports | Switch to a chart type that supports the setting โ open the chart-type button to launch the Smart Chart Picker, or ask Copilot to configure it. |
| Chart settings revert after reload in Discover | Discover query state is captured in the URL query ID, but a Discover session isn't a saved object on its own | Save the query as a Prism (or Save to tile for a Mosaic tile) to persist the configuration. |
| Prism: grain or comparison change didn't stick | Grain and comparison pills on the Prism detail view are session-level overrides by design | Re-open the Prism in Discover, change the grain/comparison there, and re-save. |
| Prism: chart styling I set with the โ gear did persist | Chart configuration set in the configure panel is persisted to the Prism (unlike grain/comparison) | This is expected โ use the โ gear โ adjust โ Save to keep styling. |
| A Mosaic tile loses your edits | Layout and tile changes are only kept when saved | In the embedded Discover editor, use Save to tile; for layout, click Save layout (Discard reverts everything). |
Still stuck?
The key distinction on a Prism: grain and comparison are session-only, but chart configuration is saved. If a control you want is simply absent, it's because the current chart type doesn't support it โ the panel hides unsupported controls rather than greying them out. Saving, editing, and renaming a Prism require the Weaver role or above.
