Build Your First Mosaic
Create a Mosaic, add tiles by pinning a Prism or adding from a reveal, arrange the grid, set a global date, frame, and comparison, then publish to your team
Time: About 15 minutes.
You'll need: A connected warehouse and a domain with Reveals, so there's something to pin.
Role: Weaver or Luminary can create, edit, and publish; Tracer and Lens can open and read.
A Mosaic is a dashboard you build once and return to every day. Each tile traces back to a Reveal, so every tile respects your Data Keys, Data Gates, and permissions automatically, and tiles are live โ they re-run against your warehouse rather than snapshotting data. In this tutorial you'll create a Mosaic, add a few tiles, arrange the grid, set a page-wide date and comparison, save the layout, and publish it.
Before you start
- Confirm you have the Weaver or Luminary role. See User roles.
- Make sure there's something to pin: a connected warehouse and a domain with Reveals.
- Skim the Mosaics reference so the title row, Filters toolbar, and tile grid are familiar.
- Helpful: having a Prism ready is the fastest way to add a chart tile.
Steps
Create a mosaic
Click Mosaics in the left navigation, then + New Mosaic. Give it a name and an optional description and confirm. New mosaics are created as Private (Draft) โ only you see them until you publish. You can also click โฆ Build with Orion and describe the dashboard you want ("Show me revenue trends, customer growth, and top products"); Orion picks governed Reveals and assembles the tiles for you.
Enter edit mode
Open the mosaic and click โ๏ธ Edit in the title row. The button changes to โ Editing and a yellow edit bar appears with ๏ผ Add tile, Undo, Save layout, and Discard.
Add a tile
Click ๏ผ Add tile. In the Add tile dialog, choose a tile type (bar, line, area, KPI, table, text, divider, media, goal, decision log, or forecast), give it a title, and โ for data tiles โ pick a Reveal. Click Add tile to drop it on the grid. The fastest path for an existing chart is to pin a Prism: in Discover, run a query and choose Add to Mosaic to open the ๐ Add to Mosaic dialog, name the tile, and pick this mosaic.
Arrange the grid
With edit mode on, drag a tile by its handle to reposition it, and drag the bottom-right corner to resize. The grid is 24 columns wide and tiles snap to whole columns. Use Undo (or โZ) to step back through layout changes.
Set the global date, frame, and comparison
In the Filters toolbar, set a date window, pick a frame (Day/Week/Month/Quarter/Year), and turn on a comparison (Previous period, WoW, MoM, QoQ, YoY, or custom). Every tile with a date dimension re-runs to match. Comparison only becomes available once a frame is selected.
Save the layout
Click Save layout. Celiq persists tile positions and sizes and returns you to view mode. Clicking Discard instead reverts every position and size to how they were when you entered edit mode โ there are no partial saves.
Publish to your team
Open the โฏ menu and set Visibility to Team so colleagues can find it, or Public for everyone in the workspace. Leave it Private to keep it as a personal Draft.
Result
You have a published, living dashboard. The KPI row shows your most-used metrics with sparklines and a delta when comparison is on, and every tile re-runs when you open the mosaic, hit Rerun all tiles, or change the global date, frame, comparison, or filters. Once visibility is Team or Public, colleagues can find and open it.
Comparison toggle greyed out? Pick a frame first โ comparison is disabled until a grain is chosen.
Next steps
- Build the charts you'll pin in Create a Reveal and Configure a Visualization.
- Let a click in one tile filter the rest with Cross filtering.
- Save and govern the Reveals you pin as Prisms.
